Fullam
Luke Fullam (1867)
Luke Fullam (b. 1818) was the brother of Elinor
(Ellen) Fullam. Along with his brother Lawrence, he participated in the Fenian
Uprising of 1867. They were subsequently
tried and found guilty of treason and sentenced to 5 years of penal servitude
on July 16, 1867. They sailed on the last prison ship to Australia,
the Hougoumont, on October 12, 1867
bound for the Swan River
Colony. They arrived in Australia
January 9, 1868. Luke was
prisoner #9740 and was described as being 5’ 8" tall, with light brown
hair and light grey eyes. He had a long face with a healthy complexion and a
middling stout build. He was bald & had several small cuts on his forehead
& a cut above his right ankle.
Lawrence Fullam (1867)
Born in 1828, Lawrence
was the baby brother of the family. He was prisoner #9739 and was described as
being 5' 5 3/4" tall with dark brown hair and dark grey eyes. He had a
long face with a sallow complexion and a middling stout build. At the time of the arrests, he and his
brother were living on James St. in Drogheda, Co. Louth. They were listed as shoemakers, were single,
& gave as their next of kin their sister, Elizabeth Fullam English.
