James Duffy & Marion Gibbons’ Marriage Certificate

The certificate gives/confirms James’ & Marion’s parents’ names. Bridie Gibbons (Marion’s sister) signed as one of the witnesses.

James P. Duffy, Jr.’s Birth Certificate

Note that the family is living in Manhattan at the time.

Anna Duffy’s Death Certificate

The family is now living on Banta St. in Corona, Queens. Anna was only 7 years old when she died of a lobar pneumonia complicating her valvular heart disease.

James P. Duffy & Family 1920 U.S. Census Entry

This close-up of a page from the 1920 Census lists James Duffy, Marion, James, Jr., Stephen, & Helen. Also listed is Ellen Gibbons, one of Marion’s sisters. The entry also gives the years James, Marion, and Ellen came to the US and when James & Marion became citizens (1909).  The address, which is not visible, is 12 Banta St., Corona, Queens.

John Mullahy & Family 1920 U.S. Census Entry

This close-up lists John C. Mullahy, his wife Ellen (Duffy), their 3 children Mary, John, & James, and Sarah Duffy. Sarah was Ellen’s sister and would eventually marry William Argue.  Mary Mullahy McMahon is still alive & well and recently celebrated her 95th birthday!  Again, note the years of immigration and John & Sarah’s occupations.

James Duffy, Jr.’s School Diploma

I’m not sure if this is a grammar school or catechism diploma. In any case, it’s dated 1/31/1922, and is from the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Marion Gibbons Duffy’s Death Certificate

There’s an error in the certificate as it lists the Marion’s parents incorrectly. Her parents were Patrick and Bridget (Fox). Helen Duffy Hogan gave the information and she must not have known or been confused. According to Fr. Stephen Duffy, the Wynnes are cousins of the Gibbons.  There’s also some confusion as to the actual year of Marion’s birth. According to her age on her marriage certificate and the records from the LDS, she was born in 1877. Here, and according to Fr. Duffy, she was born in 1873.

Ann Duffy & Mary Mullahy 1930 U.S. Census Entry

This close-up of a page from the 1930 Census lists Ann Duffy (Sr. Mary Teresita/Aunt Nanch) as well as Mary Mullahy (Sr. Mary Carmel).  Both are living at the convent associated with Mercy Hospital in San Diego and both are seamstresses (not visible). Note that there’s an error as it lists Ann as having been born in Northern Ireland instead of Irish Free State.

Ann Duffy’s Sisters of Mercy Papers (Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4)

This is a series of papers kindly provided by the Sisters of Mercy. The first 2 are copies of registration and biographical information regarding Ann. The last 2 pages are the announcement of Sr. Mary Teresita’s death.
